Theoretical and Practical Workshop on Reading and Writing Scientific Articles

Reading and writing scientific articles are essential skills for participating in academic communities and communicating research results effectively. With this in mind, the HDSP research seedbed held the Theoretical and Practical Workshop on Reading and Writing Scientific Articles, a six (6) hour training space focused on strengthening undergraduate students’ abilities in scientific reading, state-of-the-art contextualization, and academic writing.

The workshop was structured into three (3) hours of theoretical content and three (3) hours of practical work. The theoretical session was led by the group director, Prof. Henry Arguello (Google Scholar), where participants reviewed key principles for understanding the structure of scientific papers, identifying research contributions, and organizing literature to build coherent background and related-work sections.

The practical session was guided by the PhD students, led by Karen Fonseca (Google Scholar). In this hands-on component, attendees applied the concepts through structured exercises oriented toward outlining, drafting, and refining scientific text, with the aim of producing material suitable for conference presentations and academic journal submissions.

Overall, the event promoted the development of critical and analytical thinking, encouraging participants to read research more strategically and to write with greater clarity, rigor, and purpose for academic and professional dissemination.
